Murdered by in-laws in Darbhanga. The reason for murder is not dowry but the daughter. The case is of Laila Chaur located on Barhi Lahwar Path of Keoti police station area. The deceased has been identified as Ghurani Devi. The family alleges that the punishment for the birth of a daughter was that her in-laws murdered her daughter. He has accused the deceased’s husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law and sister-in-law of killing his sister and throwing the body.
Death penalty for giving birth to a daughter
Regarding the incident, the family members of the deceased say that Chandan Mukhiya, resident of Dev Bharari village under Pandaul police station area of Madhubani district, was married to Ghurni Devi five years ago. During this time Ghurani Devi gave birth to two baby girls. There used to be constant fights between husband and wife regarding this. Meanwhile she became pregnant for the third time. Although fetal testing is a crime under law, the family members got the embryo testing done and for the third time it was revealed that they were having a daughter. Then what happened was that the in-laws made Ghurni Devi abort the baby. Once again a fight broke out between husband and wife regarding this matter. On knowing about this, Ghurni Devi’s brother took his sister to his home in Bhairavasthan. After Chhath, a panchayat was called with the villagers. Fearing that no legal action would be taken, Ghurni Devi’s husband Chandan took his wife to her in-laws’ house after getting her separated.

Here, on Sunday, the dead body of the said woman was found in Laila Chaur located on the Barhi-Lahwar road side of Keoti police station area. Since he could not be identified at that time, the body was sent to the DMCH post-mortem department. On receiving the news, the family members reached the post-mortem department on Monday and identified the body as that of Ghurni Devi. The deceased’s brother, Bikau Mukhiya, resident of Khaira village of Bhairavasthan police station area, told that sister Ghurani Devi was married five years ago. Husband works as a labourer. Her in-laws were harassing her for giving birth to two daughters consecutively after marriage. Meanwhile, she became pregnant for the third time and before Diwali, her husband got her aborted. After this, when there was a fight between the husband and wife, the sister was called to her parents’ house. Then after the Panchayat, the husband took Ghurni Devi to her in-laws’ house before Chhath. He told that on Sunday morning at seven in the morning the in-laws called on the mobile and informed that your sister has run away. On getting information about this, the family members started searching for him but could not find any trace of him anywhere. Meanwhile, when the news of the dead body of a woman being found in Laila Chaur was received, the family reached DMCH. In this regard, Keoti police station incharge Rahul Kumar said that after identification, the body of the woman has been handed over to her family. A case will be registered on receipt of the application.
